Interpretation and Translation Services

We offer interpretation and translation services to meet your various English-Spanish needs, including medical and legal terminology.

Please provide 24 hours notice to assure the availability of one of our trained interpreters for all working-day events. For evening (after 4:30 p.m.) or weekend translations, we request three days advance notice.

Oral interpretation: $40.00 per hour or fraction of the hour.

Mileage will be charged for out-of-town interpretations.

Written translation:

• Calculated based on document length and type. Base fees are $0.15 per word. Discounts are available for non-profit organizations. Rush fees and technical fees may apply.
• Documents three pages or shorter are translated, proofread and certified in five business days. Certificates and diplomas are processed more quickly.
• For longer documents, please call to discuss project timeframes.

Schedule & Course Information:

We are excited to announce that the dates have finally been set for the fall session of our 60-hour Spanish-English Bilingual Medical Interpreter Certificate Course. (The course will be offered again in the spring.)
Two orientation dates will be held detailing the following information. Please plan to attend an orientation with any questions or concerns you may have.
Orientation sessions will be held at La Liga:

Wednesday June 16th from 5pm-6pm
Friday June 25th from 5pm-6pm

The classroom sessions will be held at La Liga on five Saturdays from 9am-5pm:

The tuition cost of the course will be $550.
(This does not include any necessary testing for course qualifications, eg. OPIc)

The tuition cost includes the non-refundable fee of $100 for processing and course materials, which is due at the time of registration. Payment plans are available for the remaining $450. (At the time of registration you must sign a Medical Interpreter Course Fee Payment Agreement.)

To qualify for the course:
All candidates must register for a (free) pre-assessment test at La Liga. During your orientation, you can sign up for the assessment tests that will be administered on the following days:

Monday, June 28th, 10am
Tuesday, June 29th 12pm, 3pm
Wednesday, June 30th 3pm
Thursday, July 1st 10am, 3pm
Friday, July 2nd, 11am, 1pm, 4pm

The duration of the assessment tests is 30-60 minutes. Please sign up for one of these dates. If these options do not work for you, we may be able to find a mutually convenient time.
In addition, due to strict regulations set forth by local medical institutions, all candidates must pass the following requirements before enrolling in the course:

Proof of advanced-level proficiency in second language:
· English as a second language (copy of High School / University Diploma in the U.S. or TOEFL 570+ / similar test) or OPIc test in English $65
· Spanish as a second language ACTFL OPIc $65 or copy of University Diploma with a major or concentration in Spanish

The OPIc will be offered at La Liga between July 2nd and July 15th, by appointment only. This test will take approximately 30 minutes; please contact me to get an available timeslot. Payment must be made at the time of the test.
Finally, at the end of the course, before commencing the 20-hour job-shadowing practicum and apprenticeship, each candidate must pass the following tests, which will be administered at Integra Services in Syracuse, NY.

· Background check (fees will fall in the $50 - $100 range, depending on addresses and state and county fees)
· Drug test $49

Registration for the course will be held at La Liga from Thursday, July 15th, 2010 to Monday, August 2nd, 2010. At this time, the registration fee and the OPIc need to have been paid in full along with a completed Medical Interpreter Course Agreement form in order to be successfully registered for the course.

REMINDER:
The preliminary cost, required at the time of registration is $100 + $65 (OPIc, if necessary). Acceptable forms of payment are cash, money order, or check, payable to “The Spanish Action League.” (Note: There is a $30 fee for bounced checks.)

Course enrollment fills quickly and maximum enrollment for this session is 20 students. If course enrollment numbers are below 10, we will have to cancel the fall session.
